About this video
When facing an opponent with one knee down and one knee up, and their hips close to their heel, it's crucial to control one sleeve and keep it tight against your thigh. This prevents the opponent from spinning and breaking the grip. To establish the De La Riva hook:
- Grab the opponent's heel and pull it towards you, then elevate your hip to insert the De La Riva hook.
- If flexibility is an issue, shift your hip slightly to the outside, keeping your body perpendicular to the opponent's, pull their heel, and secure the De La Riva hook.
- Ensure your knee is always moving towards your head to off-balance the opponent and prevent them from being comfortable with their foot on the mat.
- Maintain sleeve and heel grips to control the opponent and facilitate playing the De La Riva guard.
- Focus on off-balancing the opponent by turning your knee towards your head and lifting their hips off the mat.
