About this video

Switching from an ankle grip to a pants grip is effective when the opponent is squatting and applying pressure, making it difficult to sweep them. The following steps outline the technique:

  1. Transition the grip from the opponent's ankle to their pants.
  2. Push the opponent's leg away while extending your own leg.
  3. Turn your hips towards your elbow to position yourself correctly.
  4. Insert the De La Riva hook inside to elevate the opponent's leg, causing them to fall to their side.
  5. Bring your leg back, placing your foot down, and transition to Knee on Belly or side control.
  6. Continue to push the opponent away by holding their pants and pulling on their leg to maintain pressure.
  7. Keep your head on the inside and turn onto your side to secure the De La Riva hook for elevation.
  8. Ensure you are on your side rather than flat on your back to have the necessary leverage to elevate the opponent's leg and complete the sweep.

It is crucial to maintain the correct body position and leverage throughout the technique to successfully control and sweep the opponent.
