About this video
Execute a basic double hip guard sweep from the De La Riva guard when the opponent has their knee down:
- Maintain the grip inside the opponent's guard and use the foot to hip escape slightly, placing the foot on the outside of the opponent's knee.
- Pull the opponent's knee out while simultaneously pulling their arm to initiate the sweep.
- Extend the upper body and use the bottom leg to come on top, maintaining the grip.
- Transition to the elbow, coming up first, then decide whether to switch to an underhook or grab the lapel.
- Perform a knee cut over the opponent's knee while pulling their arm up to secure side control.
- Ensure the De La Riva hook and grips are tight, using the leg to create the necessary angle for the sweep.
- Keep the grip on the opponent's belt to prevent them from breaking it and attempting to pass.
- After the opponent falls, maintain the grip or switch to an underhook, sliding the knee over theirs and securing the arm tightly to the body until transitioning to side control.
