About this video
Executing the Helicopter Sweep from De La Riva guard involves a series of grip changes and precise movements:
- Start in a regular De La Riva guard and transition to same side grips.
- Switch the lapel grip to the sleeve of the same arm and simultaneously grab the opponent's foot.
- Place the foot that was on the opponent's hip onto the mat, maintaining pressure with the De La Riva hook.
- Execute a kicking motion with the De La Riva hook to lift the opponent while spinning on your back.
- As you spin, make sure to keep the hand that was on the lapel tight and maintain pressure with the De La Riva hook.
- Force the opponent to fall by pulling down on the sleeve grip as you complete the spin on your back.
- Bring the opponent's leg tight to your body to prevent any risk of triangles or other counters.
- Finish the sweep by executing a windshield wiper motion with your legs to secure side control.
This sweep relies on a combination of grip control, leg pressure, and rotational movement to off-balance and topple the opponent, leading to a dominant side control position.
