About this video

Executing the Helicopter Sweep from De La Riva guard involves a series of grip changes and precise movements:

  1. Start in a regular De La Riva guard and transition to same side grips.
  2. Switch the lapel grip to the sleeve of the same arm and simultaneously grab the opponent's foot.
  3. Place the foot that was on the opponent's hip onto the mat, maintaining pressure with the De La Riva hook.
  4. Execute a kicking motion with the De La Riva hook to lift the opponent while spinning on your back.
  5. As you spin, make sure to keep the hand that was on the lapel tight and maintain pressure with the De La Riva hook.
  6. Force the opponent to fall by pulling down on the sleeve grip as you complete the spin on your back.
  7. Bring the opponent's leg tight to your body to prevent any risk of triangles or other counters.
  8. Finish the sweep by executing a windshield wiper motion with your legs to secure side control.

This sweep relies on a combination of grip control, leg pressure, and rotational movement to off-balance and topple the opponent, leading to a dominant side control position.
