About this video
Combining the lasso guard with the De La Riva (DLR) hook creates a powerful control position. When the opponent attempts to defend against the DLR hook by bringing their elbow in, maintain the foot on their hip and use the leg to escape to create space. Execute the leg lasso by wrapping the leg around the opponent's arm and securing it behind the knee.
- With the foot on the opponent's hip, initiate a hip escape to create space.
- Wrap the leg around the opponent's arm for the lasso, securing it behind your own knee.
- Return to your back, reinserting the DLR hook while maintaining the lasso on the arm.
- Optionally, release the initial grip and switch to the opponent's lapel for additional control.
- Move the foot from the hip to the mat to facilitate an escape to the outside.
- Kick the opponent to the side while keeping the grip on the lapel or sleeve, and come up on your elbow.
- Keep the DLR hook behind the opponent's knee to prevent them from sitting up.
- Complete the sweep by coming on top and securing side control.
This combination of the lasso and DLR hook limits the opponent's movements and sets up a sweep to side control. The option to grip the lapel allows for keeping the opponent close and adds pressure, making the sweep more effective.
