About this video
This technique focuses on countering the reverse V grip when your opponent is attempting to control your top leg from a side guard position.
- As your opponent cuts an angle on the flank and takes a reverse V grip, maintain your frame.
- If the distance between you and your opponent is too much, use your foot to close the gap.
- When your opponent tries to circle towards your head, pummel underneath to recover.
- From this position, you need to square up. This can only be achieved by using your foot.
- As your opponent cuts the angle, strip the grip. This allows your knee to retract as there's nothing preventing it from doing so.
- Once you've retracted your knee, find your way to your opponent's hip. This allows you to recover by pushing off their hip.
- From here, it's easier to pummel underneath and create your hooks.
- The purpose of stripping the grip is to allow your knee to dip down to the floor. This is crucial when your opponent has a reverse V-grip.
- Once you've stripped the grip, get your hip out and pummel underneath. This allows you to establish your two hooks inside position.
Note: With the reverse V-grip, it's not possible to get a high leg over the head.
