About this video

Establishing a strong grip off of your opponent's collar tie is a key technique. Here's how to do it:
  1. When your opponent collar ties you, cover the inside of their wrist. Wrap your hand around and trap their wrist against your neck, eliminating their thumb line.
  2. Prevent their hand from slipping through the space by gaining control of their wrist and elbow. This gives you a strong control.
  3. Be aware of your control of the inside position. If your opponent circles, make an inside or outside hook as needed.
  4. Use your foot positioning and gripping to maintain control even when your opponent tries to pull away. This allows you to establish a good means of control and inside position.
  5. Establish a reinforced two-on-one grip off of your opponent's grip. Control the wrist, close the thumb line, and pinch. This movement can open up opportunities for different attacks.
  6. Control behind the elbow and close the thumb line to prevent your opponent from pulling their thumb to their face. This gives you a good reinforced two-on-one grip.
  7. Use this grip to close your distance and gain an off-balance or inside position. When your opponent tries to pull away, you can use this to get inside and maintain connection.
This technique can lead to different means of creating off-balances, triangles, and other types of attacks just off this grip alone.
