About this video
Recovering from a leg drag involves several steps:
- If your opponent doesn't circle towards your head and instead goes for a leg drag, you need to be prepared. If they settle into the leg drag position, you need to create a frame at their bicep to prevent them from beating your knee.
- Ensure your knee is free by creating space and bringing your knee in.
- Post your foot on their hip and push off to free your bottom leg that's pinned.
- From this position, you're reinforcing the side guard position, effectively recovering from the leg drag.
- If your opponent cuts a flank angle, you need to get your knee inside and create a frame across their body.
- Again, place your foot on their hip, push off, and start building back up to your frames on the hip.
- Remember, your opponent was able to leg drag you because you weren't able to build up to your frame on the hip. When you recover, ensure you don't make the same mistake.
- Get your knee and foot inside, then retract. As you retract, build back up to your frame.
- From here, you can start your recovery from the side guard position. This is how you build back up from a leg drag position.
