About this video

Defending against a knee cut using the Reverse De La Riva:
  1. When your opponent steps into a knee cut, establish a good Reverse De La Riva hook. Focus on knee-to-knee contact rather than focusing on the ankle.
  2. Once you've established a good hook with your toe at the hip, you can invert using either a scoop grip or a calf grip. This inversion can create an off-balance or a reset.
  3. Defend the knee cut by using the Reverse De La Riva hook. From here, you can frame and make your way underneath to reset the position, which can lead to other attacks.
  4. Practice inverting and extending the hook to the ceiling to take some of the weight off when your opponent steps into a knee cut.
  5. If your opponent pressures forward, create an overhead off-balance as you invert your way through and underneath.
  6. Use the Reverse De La Riva hook as your first line of defense against a knee cut. If you feel too much pressure coming forward, extend the hook overhead and invert through.
  7. Also, you can create an off-balance knee-to-knee and use a levering motion to take the weight off you. Hold at the ankle, create a levering motion, and if you feel too much pressure coming forward, extend the hook overhead and invert through.
