When your opponent tries to put you on your back by grabbing your feet, you can gain control by focusing on their elbows.
  1. When your opponent grabs your feet, grab their elbows. This makes it difficult for them to lift and put you on your back.
  2. You can strip these grips by pulling away. If your opponent tries to lift you, they end up pulling you into them, allowing you to secure your position.
  3. If your opponent lets go of your ankles and tries to pull away, this gives you control of their elbows. You can use this control to close distance, create an off balance, and gain the inside position to start working your way to lower body attacks.
  4. If you fail to control the hands and your opponent makes a grip, control their elbows and lean forward. If they commit to trying to push you to your back by grabbing your feet, you can pull yourself in and create an off balance.
  5. If your opponent feels the off balance and tries to pull away, you now have control of their elbows. You can use this control to pull yourself in, create an off balance, and gain the inside position.
Remember, if your opponent grabs your ankles and you only grab at their wrists, it's easy for them to put you on your back. Anchor in at the elbows to prevent this. If your opponent tries to put you on your back, they have to pull you in underneath them, putting you in a good position to start attacking once your back hits the floor.
