About this video

Executing a recounter to the tilt sweep from bottom half guard:

  1. When playing bottom half guard and the opponent tries to control the bottom pant leg and reach for the lapel, immediately grab their wrist.
  2. Rotate the grabbed wrist towards your body and simultaneously grab the outside of their pant leg.
  3. Pull yourself close to the opponent and start to kick your leg out while turning to initiate the sweep.
  4. If the opponent posts their hand and sits their hip to the mat to counter, making themselves heavy, proceed to the next step.
  5. Convert your top leg into a butterfly hook and begin to kick that leg away from you, applying pressure on the opponent.
  6. While kicking, turn your hips and perform a back step out of the position.
  7. Continue the motion to turn onto your knees, release the wrist, and apply a cross face.
  8. Secure a far side underhook and transition into side control to complete the recounter.
