About this video

Executing an arm lock when an opponent attempts a roll from the bottom half guard:

  1. Start by establishing a frame and control with a knee shield in the bottom half guard, then create space to secure an underhook.
  2. Step the top leg over the opponent's leg and turn to the knees, entering the dogfight position.
  3. If the opponent tries a last-ditch effort to roll underneath for a kneebar, post on the free hand to prevent being thrown over.
  4. Cut the knee that corresponds to the posting hand underneath their shoulder, turning their hips.
  5. Maintain a tight grip on the opponent's arm that was whizzer-ing and pinch the knees together.
  6. Without releasing the underhook grip, transition to the opponent's wrist and finish with an armbar.

This technique counters an opponent's leg attack roll by transitioning to an armbar submission.
