About this video
Attacking from the bottom half guard involves several steps:
- Start by getting an underhook while maintaining your frame and using your knee shield to create space. Grab their hip and step your corresponding foot over their ankle.
- When you feel your opponent starting to lift their weight, use your opposite shin to step across and slow them down, preventing them from back stepping.
- Before your opponent's knee touches the mat, push their leg out to free your foot.
- As your opponent comes back down, use your underhook tightly and turn yourself. Base off the mat and invert your position.
- Lift and turn your opponent. As soon as their back touches the mat, grab their arm, comb their hair with your leg, and finish with an arm lock.
For the second demonstration:
- From the bottom half guard, create your frame and look for a topside underhook. Create space, get the underhook, and step your corresponding foot over their ankle.
- If you feel your opponent is going to back step, use your free leg to check their leg with your shin.
- Immediately push through and reach far over their shoulder. Move from their hip, from their leg, all the way up to their shoulder, over their arm.
- Your foot that was stepping over their ankle originally can come out, allowing you to start bridging. Make the turn, lift, and turn.
- As soon as their back touches the mat, look to attack the top arm. Comb their hair and finish with the arm lock.
