About this video
Executing a back take from the bottom half guard begins with the opponent reaching for the pant leg and lapel. Counter this by grabbing their wrist and pulling it towards you while kicking your leg out and turning your hips. Place your hand on the mat and turn their hip down to make them heavy.
- Convert the top leg into a butterfly hook and immediately start lifting and turning, continuing the sweeping motion.
- As their hip begins to lift off the mat, grab their leg to make them lighter.
- Lift their leg up and then sink it back down between your legs, maintaining wrist control.
- Grab the far side of their lapel and pull them towards you.
- Execute a kick escape to put your hook in and establish back control.
When the opponent places their hand and hip on the mat, immediately transform your top leg into a butterfly hook. Begin lifting and turning towards the original sweep direction. As their hip lifts, grab their leg as if attempting a sweep. Once space is created, lift them and place them back into the gap between your legs. Release their wrist, secure the far side of their gi, perform a kick escape, and take their back.
