About this video

Executing a tilt sweep from bottom half guard:

  1. When the opponent reaches under to weave their hand between your legs and grab your bottom hand, immediately address this threat.
  2. Grab their wrist to prevent them from securing your lapel and smashing you to pass.
  3. Rotate the controlled wrist towards you while simultaneously grabbing the outside of their pant leg. In No-Gi, you can underhook or hook the back of their hamstring.
  4. Pull yourself close to the opponent and protect your chin with your shoulder to prevent a crossface.
  5. Rotate your hips towards the arm that is controlling the wrist and kick your leg straight to initiate the sweep.
  6. As the opponent begins to tip over, push their leg away and back step out, turning to your knees.
  7. Immediately control their head and establish side control, looking for a far side underhook.

This technique minimizes the opponent's ability to crossface and allows for a smooth transition to a dominant position.
