About this video
Executing a rolling choke from the bottom half guard begins with establishing a knee shield and attempting to secure an underhook. When the opponent blocks the underhook and applies pressure, the following sequence is initiated:
- Post on the free arm's elbow and insert the hand deep into the opponent's collar, maintaining it as a frame.
- Use the knee shield and forearm grip to manage distance and opponent's weight.
- When the opponent pressures forward, kick the knee shield leg out straight.
- Pull the opponent's head towards the waist and loop the arm over their head, setting the choke in place.
- Grab the outside of the opponent's pant leg with the hand corresponding to the elbow you're posted on.
- Push off with the foot of the straightened leg to initiate a roll.
- Complete the roll to land in the top half guard position, where the choke can be finished.
This technique capitalizes on the opponent's defense against the underhook to set up a choke, using the transition from bottom to top position to secure the submission.
