About this video
Attacking the Half Guard from the top, the focus is on breaking down the opponent's position and establishing grips. When grip fighting becomes challenging, switch to a top Reverse De La Riva position to create an opportunity for an attack.
- Push the opponent's legs to bait their arm into action, either over or under your arm, to engage in rescuing their position.
- As the opponent reaches to assist their legs, immediately secure a grip over their arm or weave underneath if their arm comes from below.
- Rotate your wrist to break their grip on your hand and push their arm to the mat, turning your shoulders to prevent them from pushing back and breaking your grip.
- Use the elbow corresponding to the hand on the wrist to push their leg down and cut your knee over, even if your ankle is trapped in Quarter Guard.
- Lift up, creating pressure on the opponent's elbow, and slide your foot over the top to peel off their grip, transitioning into full mount.
- Once in full mount, proceed to set up and attempt to finish the Armbar.
This sequence uses the opponent's reactions to set up a Kimura grip, transitioning from a pressured Half Guard to full mount, and ultimately aiming to secure an Armbar finish.
