Capitalizing on the opponent's exposed back from side control:
- Recognize that when the opponent turns in to recover from side control, their back lifts off the mat, presenting an opportunity.
- As they turn in, insert your hand to block their arm and push their head down, stepping over with your leg to ensure it's deep.
- Switch your hand from their head to their hip, pull out your other hand, and backstep, dropping low with your chest behind their shoulder.
- Secure a seatbelt grip by hugging the head and establishing an underhook, using your body to block their turn-in.
- Use your toes to prevent them from flattening their back on the mat again.
- Slide your knee up to sit, controlling their hand to prevent recovery, and adjust your position for a choke.
- For added security, bring your leg over their body, even if they trap it between their legs.
- When applying the choke, fight against the elbow rather than the shoulder, pulling up to drop your arm behind their head to finish.
- Keep your shoulder hidden behind their head to prevent them from escaping and maintain tight control.
- Adjust your position by walking into them to crush forward, making it harder for them to turn towards you.
- Once stable, secure your grips and position your knee like a pillow, allowing you to sit over with your leg still behind them if desired.
- Execute the choke by moving close to the elbow and lifting up, ensuring your opponent cannot use their elbow to defend.
