About this video
Capitalizing on the opponent's attempt to turn towards you from side control can lead to a successful back take. When the opponent's back is exposed, it's crucial to prevent them from flattening out again.
- As the opponent pushes and turns towards you, reach through and cup their bicep, pulling their shoulder towards you to keep them from returning to the mat.
- Push the opponent's head down and perform a large step over, aiming to place your knee in the middle of their back, not too shallow.
- Once your knee touches the ground, switch your hand to lock the opponent's hip, ensuring you're not too high on their back.
- Immediately drop your chest onto their back to secure the position, preventing their back from touching the floor again.
- Continue the drill by allowing the opponent to turn towards you once more, repeating the sequence of trapping the arm, pushing the head, stepping over, locking the hip, and dropping your chest low.
- Emphasize the importance of dropping your chest low to maintain control and use your free hand to block if necessary before bringing your chest in for the final control position.
