About this video

Back reset drills are essential for maintaining back control when an opponent attempts to escape. The goal is to keep control without switching grips or compromising the position. Back control is a dominant position with a high rate of submissions because the opponent cannot see the attacks coming.

  1. Start with a double collar grip, grabbing higher on the collars and pulling down to maintain control.
  2. As the opponent pushes off your foot and tries to escape, follow their movement while keeping your arms straight.
  3. Use the bottom leg to create distance, allowing room to lean and slide the knee up.
  4. It's crucial to sit back into a seated position rather than pulling the opponent on top, which would make it harder to move and easier for them to escape.
  5. Stiff-arm to prevent the opponent from getting their back to the mat. Slide the knee up and post on your head or shoulder to assist in sitting back.
  6. Once seated, pull the opponent back up to reset the position.
  7. If the opponent pushes off and hops over your leg, keep the hook in to maintain control.
  8. Slide the bottom leg, post, sit, and come up again to reset.
  9. Keep the arm straight and the hook in place while leaning to make the opposite leg light, facilitating the reset.

These steps help to reset back control, ensuring that you do not lose the dominant position after working hard to achieve it.
