About this video
Integrating drills and concepts to achieve the singular goal of submitting the opponent with a choke, armbar, or other submission from the back position.
- Start by pulling down on the collar, sitting up, and sitting down on the opponent's tailbone. Open their elbow and lean to insert the hook while falling to the corner to start off-balancing them.
- If the opponent places their hand on your leg to hop over, use your knee to press into their back, making it uncomfortable for them.
- Keep your back foot ready to post or sit up, bringing your knees close to their back and sneaking your feet in to secure hooks.
- Alternatively, if placing the knee in the back is uncomfortable or impractical, walk your hips back, keeping your head close to theirs and your chest trapping their shoulder.
- Walk up and follow their movements, using your knee in their back to control and make them uncomfortable, setting up for back control.
- Once in back control, insert hooks and choose the direction for your attack, whether it's falling to one side for a choke or adjusting for an armbar.
- Follow the opponent's escape attempts, using your knee to prevent them from turning their shoulder to the mat and maintaining control.
- If the opponent blocks your hooks, secure the lapel for control, and if a choke is not immediately available, take your time to adjust and secure the submission.
