About this video
Escaping the Omoplata involves recognizing the submission early and reacting quickly. As soon as the opponent's foot clears your head, indicating you're caught in an Omoplata, you must accept the position and go with the flow.
- Post your head on the mat to stabilize your upper body.
- Simultaneously, jump over the opponent's body, landing on your feet while maintaining control over them.
- During the jump, pay attention to your inside hand. Grab the hand that your opponent is using to hold your sleeve and pull it towards you to prevent them from locking their grip and controlling your hips or legs.
- By holding onto their sleeve and pulling it, you create the space needed to jump over.
- Ensure that when you land, both knees hit the mat and your hips are facing down to maintain top position and effectively pass the guard.
- Avoid landing with your hips facing up, as this can result in losing the top position and having to fight to come on top again.
By executing these steps, you can escape the Omoplata, maintain top position, and pass the guard.
