About this video

Executing a Kimura from the North-South position involves several key steps to ensure effectiveness and safety:
  1. Keep your elbow pointed upwards towards the ceiling to prevent your head from being trapped and to maintain a side position.
  2. Buy yourself time by holding your own gi collar or hugging your thigh, bringing your hand in to make your body compact and able to support more weight.
  3. Keep your elbows together to prevent your opponent from trapping your arm and setting up the Kimura.
  4. Place your outside hand on the outside of your opponent's knee and prepare to use your legs to create momentum.
  5. Kick your legs in one direction without resting them on the floor. When your thighs and knees touch, switch directions quickly while extending your trapped arm and going flat.
  6. Once your elbow is free from your opponent's control, the threat of the Kimura is neutralized.
  7. Push on your opponent's shoulder and recover guard to regain a defensive position.
It is crucial to keep your arms close to your body, with hands together, and to grab the far collar deeply for additional support. The momentum from kicking your legs and switching directions helps to free your elbow and escape the Kimura attempt.
