About this video
Escaping the back choke, specifically the bow and arrow choke, is the focus of this technique. Here are the steps:
- When your opponent attempts the bow and arrow choke, your main concern should be to prevent their leg from coming over your shoulder.
- Ensure your hand is above their elbow. This gives you leverage to pull their arm down.
- In the case of the bow and arrow choke, lift your elbow to clear it. This prevents your opponent from pinning and smashing your arm.
- Use your legs to bring your opponent's leg away. This is effective as it's just one hand against your leg and body.
- Use your hip to make a body roll. This gives you leverage to pull their arm down and look into them.
- As you move your hip away from your opponent, look into them and pull both arms down at the same time.
- Escaping the bow and arrow choke is considered easier than escaping the rear naked choke because your opponent only has one hand on the collar and one hand on the leg, trying to control your whole body.
Remember, when escaping, avoid placing both hands on the sleeve or putting your fingers on the inside. Instead, place one hand across on the sleeve and the second hand above the elbow. This gives you more leverage to pull their arm down and prevents them from pinning your arm.
