About this video
Executing a near-side Darce choke from half guard:
- Start in a half guard position where you are almost passing, with only your foot trapped, and your partner is turned to the side.
- Instead of pursuing a knee slice pass, opt for a Darce choke from the near side, using a cross-face motion to set it up.
- Thread your hand from the outside under your partner's neck, reaching for the far side to initiate the choke.
- If you can reach your bicep, secure the grip and finish the choke. If not, use a 'pocket grip' to maintain control.
- Alternatively, clasp your hands together and use the leverage to extract your leg from half guard.
- Once your leg is free, walk to the side to deepen your grip, then secure your bicep and your partner's shoulder to finalize the Darce choke.
This technique is particularly effective when your partner is expecting a pass or a Darce choke from the opposite side, allowing you to surprise them with a near-side attack.
