About this video

Transitioning from a D'Arce choke to a modified Ezekiel choke using the gi:

  1. Start with the same grip as a traditional Ezekiel, with four fingers inside your own gi.
  2. Hook your partner's leg and create the arm position as you would for a D'Arce choke.
  3. If the D'Arce isn't tight or you're looking for a variation, instead of grabbing the opponent's shoulder, thread your hand all the way through to the other side of their neck.
  4. Apply pressure on the neck with your hand, mimicking an Ezekiel choke motion.
  5. Fall to the side, pulling your bottom hand in while pushing down with your top hand, as you would in an Ezekiel choke.
  6. Shift your body weight forward and to the side to tighten the choke and secure the submission with this modified Ezekiel grip.

This variation is particularly tight and effective when having difficulty finishing the traditional D'Arce choke.
