About this video

Alternative grip for finishing the Darce choke when unable to secure a firm bicep grip:

  1. Hook the opponent's leg and ensure your arm is threaded through enough to reach your bicep, but without a firm grip.
  2. Create a 'pocket' with your gi, similar to a Spider Guard grip, by grabbing the sleeve of your gi on the side.
  3. Adjust the pocket grip based on how deep your arm is; it can be on the bicep, elbow, or forearm. The deeper the grip, the better.
  4. Once the pocket grip is established, use your four fingers to pull your hand back, emulating the pressure of the original Darce choke.
  5. Close your elbow and bring your hand back as you would in the standard Darce choke.
  6. Finish the choke by closing your shoulder, falling to your side, and squeezing as you would with a traditional bicep grip.
  7. Remember to treat the pocket grip as if it were the bicep grip and apply the same finishing mechanics.
