About this video

Executing a D'Arce choke when the opponent transitions to turtle position:

  1. Start with hands clasped as if preparing for a D'Arce choke, but before securing the choke, the opponent turtles up.
  2. If the opponent's leg is hooked, use it to help flip them back onto the mat. However, the technique is the same without the leg hook.
  3. With the opponent in turtle, place your forearm behind their head and your shoulder under their armpit.
  4. Thread your leg through to post and drive forward, pulling their head into their chest to flip them back to side control.
  5. As soon as their back hits the mat, push your hand through to secure the D'Arce choke grip.
  6. Lock your hand onto your bicep and grab their shoulder to finalize the choke position.
  7. Fall to your side and squeeze to finish the submission.

This technique uses the same grip and motion used to clear the hand in previous lessons, applying it to flip the opponent from turtle to side control and secure the D'Arce choke.
