About this video

Alternative finishes and grips for the Darce choke are introduced when the practitioner is unable to reach their bicep to complete the choke. This can occur due to long arms, the opponent's wide shoulders, or interference from the Gi. However, the Gi can be utilized to aid in finishing the choke.

  1. Start with the opponent's hand cleared and their leg hooked, but when the hand cannot reach the bicep, an Ezekiel choke grip is used instead.
  2. Grab the inside of your own Gi with four fingers, using this grip to create the same pressure as the traditional Darce choke.
  3. Even if the hand is barely protruding, secure the grip inside the Gi and bring the hand over in the same motion as the standard Darce.
  4. With the grip secured, grab the opponent's shoulder. This replicates the pressure of the bicep grip in the traditional Darce.
  5. Tuck the elbow and shoulder, drop to the side, and squeeze to finish the choke.
  6. The key is to use the Gi to compensate for the inability to reach the bicep, ensuring the choke can still be effectively applied.
