About this video

Transitioning from a guillotine to a D'Arce choke from half guard:

  1. Secure a guillotine grip as your opponent goes for an underhook or sits up without a strong underhook.
  2. Instead of attempting to finish the guillotine or pass the guard immediately, shift all your weight forward and place your forehead on the mat to escape half guard.
  3. While squeezing the guillotine to distract your opponent, use your free foot to press against the inside of their knee to open their guard.
  4. Once your leg is free, pop up using your elbow and hand to sprawl and cover their arm.
  5. Thread your right hand through to your bicep and grab their shoulder, completing the D'Arce choke setup.
  6. Hook their leg with your leg if possible to secure the position further.
  7. Squeeze and drop to your side to finish the choke with the Double Cross Jump.

Remember to use your head and shoulder to assist in freeing your leg from half guard and to sprawl effectively to trap your opponent's arm for the D'Arce choke.
