About this video
Executing a triangle choke when the opponent keeps their elbow close to their body:
- Begin by breaking the opponent's grip and pulling their posture down.
- If the opponent keeps their elbow tight to prevent an armbar, transition to setting up a triangle choke.
- Depending on the opponent's posture, either shoot the leg over for the choke or, if they're higher up, bring the knee across the arm to trap it.
- Ensure to maintain connection by pinching the knee into the opponent and snaking the heel up and over, rather than just shooting the leg up which can lose the connection.
- Keep the knee on the opponent's chest to pin the arm and prevent them from pulling it out.
- Use the opposite leg to help lift the hips up as the heel comes down, pinching the opponent's body to secure the triangle position.
- Initially, lock the feet to secure the position without needing to figure-four the legs immediately.
- Once the feet are locked, let go of the leg, keep the hips elevated, and start adjusting to complete the triangle choke.
- Drive the heel down and lift the hips up to tighten the choke, then proceed to get the opponent's arm across and adjust as necessary to finish the choke.
