About this video
Executing the Baseball Bat Choke from side control with a windshield wiper position on the opponent's arm:
- Start in side control with the opponent blocking your hip. Remove their arm by faking a knee on belly, sliding down to pin the arm, switching your hip, and basing out for solid side control.
- Ensure your weight is forward, sprawling inside, and not sitting back to prevent the opponent from rolling into you. Push the opponent's face one way and stretch their arm the other, placing your shoulder underneath theirs.
- For the choke, switch your grip from the opponent's lat to their gi collar, sliding your thumb inside the gi behind the neck and slightly to the side, closer to the shoulder.
- Keep pressure on the opponent and sneak your other hand in low, as if blocking their hip with your elbow, to find the lapel on the other side with your palm up.
- Start with your hand low on the lapel and slide up to get a four-finger grip inside the gi, keeping your elbow tight to your body.
- Ensure your wrists are straight and strong, not bent, as you position your hands as if holding a baseball bat.
- To finish the choke, drop your elbow tight to your body, drop your shoulder, and turn your chest towards the opponent's head to apply pressure and complete the choke.
Remember to be cautious and considerate when practicing chokes, as they can cause discomfort or numbness in your partner's arm.
