About this video
Utilize the Gi as a tool for submissions by opening up the lapel to trap limbs and create leverage points. This can distract the opponent and open up opportunities for various submissions.
- Start with tight control and a big Knee on Belly, then slide to pin the opponent's arm with your foot on their wrist.
- Switch your hip and base out to ensure solid control, especially when the opponent is blocking your chest pressure.
- Open the lapel to create a distraction. If the opponent fights it, persist in pulling the lapel out and trapping their arm, which limits their defense to one arm.
- Pass the lapel over the opponent's arm loosely, encouraging them to pull their arm out, creating space for your hand to slip in for the Ezekiel choke.
- Insert your hand into the lapel, making a fist to use the bony part of your wrist against the side of the opponent's neck, targeting the area just below the ear for maximum discomfort.
- Ensure your wrist is straight and use the sharp part of your wrist bone to apply pressure, not the flat of your hand.
- Pull down on the lapel with your other hand to tighten the choke while slicing the bony part of your wrist into the opponent's neck to finish the choke.
Practice the entry with Knee on Belly, control the lapel, and execute the Ezekiel choke by focusing on the correct placement of the wrist and pulling down on the lapel for a tight submission.
