About this video

Utilizing the opponent's reaction to an omoplata submission attempt can lead to an effective sweep. When initiating the omoplata, the opponent will likely posture up to defend. This is the moment to act by shooting the hips upward in sync with their posturing motion. Execute a basic back roll while maintaining control of the opponent's legs and arm.

  1. Break the opponent's grip and proceed with the omoplata setup: pop, pull, and slide under the arm.
  2. As the opponent postures up to defend, simultaneously lift your hips and perform a back roll.
  3. Land in a position where you still control the opponent's legs and arm, ready to transition to a finish or stabilization.
  4. Secure the position for at least three seconds to ensure point scoring, keeping a tight grip on the opponent's leg to prevent their escape.
  5. Depending on the opponent's reaction, you can transition to back control or other dominant positions to finalize the sweep or submission.

It's crucial to maintain tight control throughout the sweep to prevent the opponent from escaping and to set up the desired finishing technique.
