About this video

Executing an Omoplata from the cross guard involves a proactive approach to submission, not waiting for the opponent's reaction. The setup begins with grabbing the opponent's arm, sitting up, and breaking their grip to pull oneself underneath.

  1. Start by securing the opponent's arm and sitting up to break their grip.
  2. Pull yourself under the opponent while maintaining control of their arm.
  3. Immediately transition into the Omoplata by driving your leg down over their shoulder.
  4. With the leg in position, sit up to secure the Omoplata, placing your leg over the opponent's back.
  5. Adjust your position by bringing your mid-section in and your leg back, encouraging the opponent to come towards you.
  6. Use your free leg to help adjust your position and ensure a tight lock on the Omoplata.
  7. Control the opponent's sleeve, sit up, and break their grip if necessary, then dive under their arm.
  8. Open up to transition directly into the Omoplata, releasing the leg and sitting up.
  9. Link your arm to the opponent's torso, keeping your back tight and pulling them towards you to secure the finish.

This sequence allows for a swift and direct attack into the Omoplata, capitalizing on the control provided by the cross guard position.
