About this video

Anticipate the opponent's counter to your attack and be ready with a counter to their counter. When attempting a sweep and the opponent stands up to avoid it, use their movement to set up an ankle pick.

  1. Attempt the sweep and if the opponent stands up to base, swing to make them step further out.
  2. As they step, create enough space to bring your leg out behind them.
  3. Hook your foot behind their ankle and execute the foot sweep while keeping your other leg stiff and lifting upwards.
  4. Control your grips to minimize the scramble that follows the sweep.
  5. Use the grips to pull yourself up while controlling the opponent's leg.
  6. Place your shin across their leg in a windshield wiper position to facilitate the pass.
  7. Extend the leg that's in the opponent's bicep to prevent them from retracting their leg.
  8. Pull yourself up using the grips and maintain control over the opponent's leg.
  9. Transition to a pass or knee on belly position, securing additional points.

Effective sweeping requires off-balancing the opponent first. Control and timing are crucial for executing the ankle pick and subsequent pass.
