About this video
When an opponent defends against a Kimura from the windshield wiper position in side control, follow this sequence:
- Ensure shoulder pressure is tight and not loose, with the shoulder driving into the opponent's neck.
- Peel the opponent's arm away and staple their wrist down with your foot.
- Switch your hip and base, keeping your base leg on your toes.
- As you set up the Kimura, if the opponent grabs their belt, pull them towards you while maintaining shin pressure on their arm to keep it trapped.
- Rotate your base leg and use your shoulder to help pull the opponent, ensuring you stay connected to them.
- Use your knee as a kickstand to keep the opponent on their side, pinching it into them with your foot based out.
- Bring the opponent's elbow and arm close to your chest to use your whole body to break their grip.
- For the finish, keep your knee pinching into the opponent and turn only your upper body, maintaining a 90-degree angle at the opponent's arm to trap their shoulder.
- If the grip is too strong to break, pivot on the knee that's pinching the opponent's ribs to transition to an armbar.
- Hook your foot onto the opponent's shoulder to elevate it, making the armbar tighter, especially against flexible opponents.
- Pinch your knees and keep the arm tight to your chest, and either go back slowly or apply the submission quickly in a tournament setting.
This sequence emphasizes control, leverage, and tightness to effectively transition from a defended Kimura to an armbar.
