About this video
Executing a push sweep involves using the foot in the opponent's armpit to create distance and leverage, which can lead to various sweeps. The technique begins with establishing a grip and breaking the opponent's grip, then getting underneath them and pulling to set up the position. With the knee placed in and the leg extended, the opponent may attempt to stand up or alleviate pressure.
- Anticipate the opponent's movement and use their leg to swing and kick out, regardless of whether they post their hand or not.
- Maintain stiffness in the kicking leg to prevent the opponent from recovering, even if they have a base hand.
- Be aggressive with the sweep, swinging hard and keeping the leg stiff to control the opponent's movement.
- Control the opponent's sleeve, break their grip, and pull their arm towards you while stiffening the leg to stretch them out.
- Control the opponent's leg near the knee to make it difficult for them to drop their weight onto you.
- Drive forward through the sweep to potentially end up in a Knee on Belly position, scoring two points for the sweep and an additional two points for Knee on Belly.
The key to a successful push sweep is to be assertive and maintain control of the opponent's limbs to dictate their movement and secure the sweep.
