About this video
Executing a triangle submission when the opponent attempts to disengage from the closed guard involves a series of movements to secure the position. Begin by pulling the opponent's elbows out and away from their body, east of the chest, while maintaining a clinch. Open the closed guard, and as the opponent starts to pull away, which will naturally pull you to the side, maintain the clinch and turn to your side, bridging off the corresponding foot.
- With the opposite foot, hug the back of the opponent's leg to prevent them from creating distance.
- As the opponent continues to pull away, watch for the angle outside their knee to change. This is the cue to initiate the triangle.
- Release the foot from the opponent's leg and perform a bicep curl motion to bring their upper body towards you.
- As the opponent's hand moves outside, instantly bring your foot up to close the gap and secure the triangle position.
- Adjust the triangle by dropping down, squeezing your knees together, and applying pressure on the back of the opponent's head.
It's important to note that even if the opponent's arm is not initially inside the triangle, the position still allows for an arm attack. The key is to pull the opponent's head towards your chest and pinch your knees to finish the submission.
