About this video

Initiate a drill to transition into closed guard, sweeping, or submitting positions by bridging off the mat to create space and lifting the hips. Turn to either side, maintaining contact with both feet on the mat.

  1. Begin flat on your back and bridge to elevate your hips off the mat.
  2. Turn onto one shoulder, it doesn't matter which side, while keeping both feet in contact with the mat.
  3. Pendulum the leg opposite the shoulder you've turned to, still keeping the foot connected to the mat.
  4. Invert onto your shoulders, not your neck, ensuring there's enough space to prevent the opponent from stacking you.
  5. Move fluidly and transition into a seated position from the inversion.
  6. When bridging and turning to the side, it becomes difficult for the opponent to flatten your hips back onto the mat.
  7. Use the bridging leg to prevent being turned onto your back and the elbow to keep hips elevated, creating a wedge against the opponent's pressure.
  8. Bring your head towards your knee and make a connection with the foot that initially bridged off the mat.
  9. Kick the leg over while inverted on your shoulders to complete the movement and place the foot down to establish position.
