About this video

Attacking with an armlock when an opponent defends against a sweep:

  1. Start by pulling the opponent's elbows out and bringing your knees to your chest to establish a tight clinch.
  2. Open your closed guard and begin to bridge, simultaneously getting a grip on the opponent's pant leg as you start to invert.
  3. If the opponent applies pressure to prevent the inversion and movement, look to bring your leg over their head.
  4. As soon as your leg makes contact with their forehead, pull your arm straight back towards your waist, aiming to catch their wrist in your armpit.
  5. Pop your hips forward to finish the armlock.
  6. If the opponent tries to defend by going belly down, it will be ineffective as you extend your hips forward and pull back with your elbow, securing the armlock.
