About this video
Initiate an attack from the closed guard aiming for an Omoplata. Start by bringing your knees to your chest to clinch your opponent's elbows, creating a tight position. Turn to your side and begin bridging, but if your opponent resists by driving their head down and posturing up, adjust your strategy.
- Move your hips out and attempt to step your foot over their shoulder to secure the Omoplata.
- If your opponent begins to lift up and follow your movement, preventing you from placing your foot across their head, kick your leg (which is under their armpit) upwards as high as possible.
- This action will extend their arm into a straight armlock position.
- Underhook their leg with your arm and bring your other leg in front of their face to tighten the armlock.
- Continue to apply pressure and attempt to sweep your opponent by rolling them over.
- Finish the armlock once they are on their back on the mat.
This sequence transitions from an Omoplata attempt to a straight armlock, utilizing the opponent's posture and resistance to secure the submission.
