About this video

Executing a farside armbar from the flower sweep position involves the following steps:

  1. Start by pulling the opponent's elbows out and bringing your knees to your chest to clench them.
  2. Open up your guard and bridge to initiate the armbar, securing your grip as you turn.
  3. If the opponent tries to flatten you back down, maintain your position up on your hips.
  4. Instead of holding onto the initial grip, transition by trapping the far arm and maintaining control of the opponent's pant leg.
  5. Shoot your hips across to end up in a mount position, with the opponent's arm still trapped.
  6. Transition to a modified S-mount position, bringing your knee up tight without letting go of the far arm.
  7. Secure the armbar position by sitting towards the opponent's hips, ensuring a knee to elbow connection.
  8. As you sit your hip to the mat, bring your leg over their head, and pull the elbow straight back to catch their wrist and finish the armbar.

This technique is particularly effective when the opponent is trying to stack you and make themselves heavy, as it allows you to use their pressure to set up the farside armbar.
