About this video

When an opponent clenches your head from the closed guard, the goal is to break them down and create space using your legs. To execute the double armlock:

  1. Use your legs to straighten out your opponent, creating space between your head and theirs.
  2. Move the arm that was clenching their head in front of their face, underneath their chin, and grab their gi with your forearm.
  3. Lift their chin with your forearm to maintain distance and open your closed guard.
  4. Place the foot on the same side as the arm under their chin onto their hip to start cutting the angle.
  5. While maintaining pressure on the inverted armbar, position yourself to catch their other arm as well.
  6. With the option to finish the inverted armbar, you can also choose to attack the arm on the downside for a standard armbar.
  7. Make a tight overhook behind their tricep to control their arm.
  8. Open your closed guard and pivot your body to align with the angle of the inverted armbar.
  9. Place your foot on the hip of the arm that's under their chin and bridge to create necessary space.
  10. Bring your leg over their head to secure the position, giving you the option to attack either arm with an armbar.
