About this video
Setting up an Americana trap from the closed guard when the opponent clinches the head:
- Begin by breaking down the opponent's posture in closed guard. They will likely try to clinch your head, creating a 50-50 position with one overhook and one underhook.
- Push away with your legs to create space, as their hips will be close to yours.
- Immediately grip behind their elbow to make it tight, feigning an attempt at an arm lock to sell the position.
- Keep their head and upper body close to you, maintaining pressure.
- As they try to bring their forearm back in front of your face, track their forearm with your forehead and catch their wrist with your clinching hand.
- Grab your own wrist to secure the Americana grip and apply pressure away from both of you at an angle.
- If you can't finish the Americana, open your guard and transition to a scissor sweep or hip bump to roll them over into the mount.
- Once in mount, bring your arm over their head and attempt to finish the Americana from the top position.
