About this video
Countering the come up to knees escape with one hook in:
- Start with one hook in and maintain a tight seatbelt grip as your partner raises their hips and comes up to their knees.
- If your elbow is stuck, use your left leg to kick and generate momentum to come up to your right elbow.
- Ensure your hips are on top of your partner's hips. Use your left leg to pull yourself up, but avoid being too far over them by pushing yourself back using the mat or their body.
- With one hook still in, place your other foot behind their ankle and extend their leg while applying pressure to their hip. Keep your knee pinching inwards.
- As they fall to their hip, follow them down while maintaining the seatbelt grip and work on placing the second hook.
- Repeat the drill by allowing your partner to attempt the escape again, ensuring you stay tight, kick up to your elbow, pull yourself up, push back, and extend their leg to retake the back.
