About this video
Classic escape from back control:
- Start by facing up with your hips elevated, creating a tabletop position. This makes it difficult for your opponent to apply a rear naked choke due to the misalignment of hips.
- First, address the seatbelt grip. Use a hook grip to get your fingers underneath your opponent's fingers, prying their grip apart by pulling up with your fingers and pushing in with your palm.
- Once the grip is broken, quickly separate their hands and go for a two-on-one grip to remove their arm from around your neck.
- Next, control the top leg by placing your foot over their foot and framing the front of their shin with your hand. This prevents them from re-establishing control.
- Hip escape to remove the bottom hook, then drop your hand to their hip to create a frame. This frame prevents them from coming up and smashing you.
- Trap their top foot with your foot and continue to hip escape, ensuring their foot remains trapped to prevent them from mounting or re-establishing hooks.
- Use the frame to insert a knee shield, creating space and transitioning to your preferred guard position.
Key points:
- Ensure your hips face a different direction from your opponent's to make choking difficult.
- Break the seatbelt grip before addressing the hooks.
- Use frames to prevent your opponent from smashing you or re-establishing control.
- Trap their foot to prevent them from mounting or re-establishing hooks.
