About this video
Transitioning from X-Guard to a technical standup sweep involves several key steps to maintain control and effectively bring the opponent down:
- Maintain tight control with your feet flexed and positioned high on the opponent's leg throughout the sweep.
- Use both feet to extend the opponent away from you, which will make them uncomfortable and off-balance.
- Choose to either keep one foot on the opponent's hip or place it on the inside of their knee for additional control.
- Begin the technical standup by placing your foot on the mat and posting up on your elbow.
- Lift your hips and proceed to stand up while maintaining control of the opponent's leg.
- Once standing, you have multiple options such as pulling on the knee and circling to the outside to break the opponent down, or sweeping out their leg for further attacks.
- Ensure that your grips and head pressure are secure, as a loose hold will compromise the sweep.
- After executing the sweep, immediately look to transition to passing the opponent's guard.
Keeping everything tight and controlled is crucial for the success of this sweep from the X-Guard to the technical standup.
