About this video

Transitioning from Reverse De La Riva to Single X-Guard involves maintaining distance from the opponent. Instead of grabbing the collar, which can pull the opponent in, use a hand to push on the chest and a foot to post on the hip or shoulder to keep them at bay. This prevents the opponent from getting into a favorable knee cut position or securing an underhook.

  1. Post one hand on the opponent's chest and use the left foot to either post on the hip or shoulder, maintaining distance.
  2. Reach for the opponent's lat with the right hand, while posting the left foot on the mat.
  3. Simultaneously push the opponent to the right using the hand and foot, and use the Reverse De La Riva hook to kick up and extend them away.
  4. Once the opponent's hands are on the mat, reach for their heel rather than the knee or calf. This allows for easier control and can slightly twist their ankle.
  5. Pull the heel to the armpit and transition into the Single X-Guard, securing the leg.
  6. In Single X-Guard, keep hips elevated, knees pinched, and feet tight against the opponent's hamstring and hip.
  7. Drop hips slightly to stay heavy on the opponent's legs, making it difficult for them to step out or pass.
  8. Keep one foot tight to the hamstring to prevent leg drags, and the other foot tight on the hip to block back steps and passes.

By following these steps, you can effectively transition into Single X-Guard and set up a strong position for sweeps.
