About this video
Transitioning from De La Riva to Single Leg X involves maintaining a strong De La Riva guard by keeping the knee turned in and the right foot on the opponent's hip. Grip the collar to break the opponent's posture and hold the ankle with the left hand for a stronger attack position.
- Slide the right foot down just above the opponent's knee to push and sit up in one motion.
- Release the ankle and wrap the arm around the opponent's leg, using the entire arm to keep tight.
- Post the right hand on the mat and scoot the hips back slightly to bring the shin in front of the opponent's shin.
- Rotate to the right while kicking the leg straight up to enter the Single Leg X position.
- Keep both feet tight, with the left heel clamped down on the hip and the right foot tight to the hamstring.
- Lift the hips up, pinch the knees together, and drop the hips slightly to add weight on the opponent's leg, making it harder for them to move.
- Ensure the right foot remains tight on the hamstring to prevent the opponent from pushing the leg down for a leg drag.
- Keep the heel on the hip to avoid penalties and maintain control, making it difficult for the opponent to escape or pass.
Throughout the transition, maintain control of the collar to keep the opponent's posture broken, and ensure the chest stays close to the opponent's knee to prevent them from kicking out and escaping.
